Anesthesia
The blockage of feeling, including pain
Analgesia
Relief of pain without total loss of feeling or muscle movement
Hyperalegsia
Heightened sense of pain to noxious stimuli. Painful stimulus perceived as more painful
Hyperesthesia
Abnomral increase in sensitivity to stimulus
Allodynia
Pain resulting from normally painless stimuli
Dysesthesia
Unpleasant sensations
Hyperpathia
All stimuli (noxious and innocuous) more intense.
Nociceptors
Pain sensing nerves
Neuropathic pain
- Chronic pain occurring when CNS nerves are damaged.

Nociceptive pain
Stimulation from pain receptors.
Idiopathic pain
No apparent cause
Psychogenic
No physical cause found, but is real.
Drug dependence
Body becomes conditioned to a drug to such a degree that it is required for function, and without withdrawal sets in
Drug Tolerance
Body adapts to drug, requiring more to achieve a certain effect.
Drug addiction
Disease of brain’s reward, motivation, memory (and related) circuitry. Impulsive drug use despite harmful consequences.
