Diuretics Flashcards
1
Q
Loop Diuretics
A
- Most efficacious diuretic
- Inhibits Na/Cl reabsorption in ASCENDING LOOP
- Heart failure; pulmonary edema.
2
Q
Thiazide Diuretics
A
- Decreases Na+ reabsorption in CORTICAL ASCENDING LIMB and DISTAL TUBULE
- HTN; heat failure
3
Q
Potassium Sparing Diuretics
A
- Prevents Na+ reabsorption in COLLECTING TUBULE
- Heart failure; hyperaldosteronism
4
Q
Volume depletion
A
Concern with diuretics for obvi reasons
5
Q
Azotemia
A
Too many nitrogen containing compounds in the blood. Can be see as a result of volume depletion
6
Q
Hypokalemia/hyperkalemia
A
Depends on which diuretic is use, and which mechanism that it functions.
7
Q
Hyperuricema
A
Thiazides and loop diuretics decrease renal secretion acid, thus leading to this.
8
Q
Hyponatremia
A
Generally 2/2 to volume depletion
9
Q
Hyperglycemia
A
Thiazides can induce this.
10
Q
Hypomagnesemia
A
Seen with loop diuretics.
