Antipllatelets/Anticoagulents Flashcards
Warfarin (Coumadin)
Inhibits vitamin K in its role in clot formation. Vitamin K antagonist (i.e. outcompetes vitamin K in binding in clotting cascade).
Anticoagulant
Heparin
- Prevents fibrin formation
- Accelerates inactivation of coagulation factors by antithrombin
Anticoagulant
Low-Molecular Weight Heparin
Selectively accelerates interaction of antithrombin and clotting factor Xa
Anticoagulant
Dabigatran (Pradaxa)
Direct thrombin inhibitor
Anticoagulant
Clopidogrel (Plavix)
Inhibits platelets ability to adhere to fibrinogen and each other. (ADP receptor inhibitor)
Anti-platelet
Ticlopidine (Ticlid)
Inhibits platelet ability to adhere to fibrinogen and each other (ADP receptor inhibitor)
Anti-platelet
Dipyridamle (persantine)
Decreases platelet “stickiness” and therefore ability to adhere to thrombogenic surfaces
Asprin (ASA)
- ASA changed to salicylic acid which has anti-inflammatory, antipyretic and analgesic effects.
- Blocks prostoglandin synthesis.
