‘γουνοῦμαί σε, ἄνασσα: θεός νύ τις, ἦ βροτός ἐσσι;
εἰ μέν τις θεός ἐσσι, τοὶ οὐρανὸν εὐρὺν ἔχουσιν,
Ἀρτέμιδί σε ἐγώ γε, Διὸς κούρῃ μεγάλοιο,
εἶδός τε μέγεθός τε φυήν τ᾽ ἄγχιστα ἐίσκω:
εἰ δέ τίς ἐσσι βροτῶν, τοὶ ἐπὶ χθονὶ ναιετάουσιν,
τρὶς μάκαρες μὲν σοί γε πατὴρ καὶ πότνια μήτηρ,
τρὶς μάκαρες δὲ κασίγνητοι: μάλα πού σφισι θυμὸς
αἰὲν ἐυφροσύνῃσιν ἰαίνεται εἵνεκα σεῖο,
λευσσόντων τοιόνδε θάλος χορὸν εἰσοιχνεῦσαν.
κεῖνος δ᾽ αὖ περὶ κῆρι μακάρτατος ἔξοχον ἄλλων,
ὅς κέ σ᾽ ἐέδνοισι βρίσας οἶκόνδ᾽ ἀγάγηται.

“I clasp your knees, queen; are you some god, or a mortal? If you are some god, one of those who live in high heaven, I consider you like Artemis most closely, daughter of great Zeus, in your appearance, size and stature; but if you are a mortal, one of those who live on Earth, thrice blessed are your father and your queenly mother, and thrice blessed are your brothers; I suppose very much that their hearts always melt with joy because of you, when they see such a young shoot entering the dance. The man who is the most blessed in his heart, more than all others, is he who, having won you with wedding gifts, leads you home.[”]
