ὣς Ὀδυσεὺς κούρῃσιν ἐυπλοκάμοισιν ἔμελλε
μίξεσθαι, γυμνός περ ἐών: χρειὼ γὰρ ἵκανε.
σμερδαλέος δ᾽ αὐτῇσι φάνη κεκακωμένος ἅλμῃ,
τρέσσαν δ᾽ ἄλλυδις ἄλλη ἐπ᾽ ἠιόνας προὐχούσας:
οἴη δ᾽ Ἀλκινόου θυγάτηρ μένε: τῇ γὰρ Ἀθήνη
θάρσος ἐνὶ φρεσὶ θῆκε καὶ ἐκ δέος εἵλετο γυίων.

He went to go, just like a mountain-reared lion, confident in his strength, who goes rain-drenched and wind-blown, with his two eyes ablaze; and he goes after cows or sheep or after wild deer; and his stomach urges him to try the sheep and to go into the closely built pen; just so, Odysseus was intending to mingle with the beatiful-haired girls, although he was naked; for need had come upon him. He appeared terrifying to them, filthy with brine, and they ran hither and thither along the projecting shore; the daughter of Alcinous remained alone; for Athena put courage in her heart and took the fear from her limbs.
