What is extension?
Straightening a part of the body to its normal position
What is adduction?
A sideways movement towards the middle of the body e.g breast stroke
What is abduction?
A sideways movement away from the body e.g a star jump
What is rotation?
A turning movement around an imaginary line e.g swinging a golf club
What is circumduction?
When the end of a bone moves in a circle
What is a prime mover?
It contracts to start a movement (agonist)
What is an antagonist?
They relax to allow movement to take place
What does a fixator do?
They contract to steady body parts and give muscles a firm base
What does a synergist do?
They reduce unnecessary movement when the prime mover contracts, they also define our movements
What are the steps for the test for cardiovascular fitness? (Harvard step test)
~Athletes listen to a tape/CD
~The athletes run to a cone and only return on the beep
~If an athlete fails to reach the cone twice in a row they are out
~The level they reached at that point is recorded as ‘their level’
