P1: Muscles Flashcards
What is an Agonist?
Agonist - Muscles that produces the movement (Contracts)
What is an Antagonist?
Antagonist - Works to counter/opposes the action (Relaxes)
What is a Fixator?
Fixator - Stabilises or supports the joint/body/movement
What is the Agonist muscle in the Flexion at the Elbow?
Bicep
What is the Antagonist muscle in the Flexion at the Elbow?
Tricep
What is the Agonist muscle in the Extension at the Elbow?

What are the Anterior Muscles?
The Anterior Muscles are the muscles found on the front of the body
What are the Posterior Muscles?
The Posterior Muscles are the muscles found on the back of the body
Where is the Trapezius found?
The Trapezius is found on either side of and behind the Neck
Where is the Deltoid found?
The Deltoid is found on the Shoulder
What movement does the Deltoid do and where?
The Deltoid Abducts the Shoulder
What movement does the Trapezius do and where?
The Trapezius Extends the Head
What movement does the Latissimus Dorsi do and where?
The Latissimus Dorsi Abducts
What movement does the Pectoral do and where?
The Pectorals Adducts the Shoulder
What movement does the Bicep do and where?
The Bicep performs Flexion of the Elbow
What movement does the Tricep do and where?
The Tricep performs Extension of the Elbow
What movement does the Abdominals do and where?
The Abdominals perform Flexion of the Hip
What movement does the Gluteals do and where?
The Gluteals perform Extension of the Hip
What movement does the Quadricep do and where?
The Quadricep Extends the Knee
What movement does the Hamstring do and where?
The Hamstring Flexes the Knee
What movement does the Gastrocnemius do and where?
The Gastrocnemius points the toes
What are Antagonist Muscular Pairs?
Antagonist Muscular Pairs
- When the antagonist and agonist muscles work together
- One muscle contracts, the other relaxes
- One muscle shortens, the other lengthens
- The agonist is the muscle that works
