oxybow lake and meander Flashcards
1
Q
what is a meander?
A
A meander is a winding curve or bend in a river.
2
Q
how does a oxbow lake form?
A
- its a slightly bent river
2.it is faster on the outside which erodes the outside and does depostiton (leaves sediment) on the inside making a curve
3.continues and over time the bend increases - the nack starts to get eroded making the neck smaller and narrower
- starts to become oxbow lake because it cuts through the neck of the meander.
6.it will go to the fastest route wich is through the neck depositing sediment on the former bank
.after a while of deposition the curve is cut off from the river and dries up leaving a oxbow lake
