Oxidative Phosporylation Flashcards
1
Q
What is DNP- and what is its function?
A
DNP- picks up a proton to form DNPH and transports it across the IMM
It will release the H+ in the matrix forming DNP-
DNP- will cross back to the intermembrane space and the structure retains hydrophobic character
In the presence of DNP, the proton motive force collapses and ATP synthesis stops as it is a chemical uncoupler
2
Q
How is electron transport and ATP synthesis blocked?
A
CN-; venturicidin or oligomycin
3
Q
Who developed the chemiosmotic hypothesis?
A
Peter Mitchell
