morphological overgeneralisation
occurs at this stage, children apply patterns of inflections to irregular nouns. applying regular inflections to irregular words.
semantic overgeneralisation
where children extend word meaning or grammatical rules beyond their normal use e.g. (mu), ‘moon’, half-eaten cakes + bananas.
semantic undergeneralisation
where children use a word to refer to a smaller catergory of things than adults do e.g. might refer only to their family pet as ‘dog’ and not to other dogs they see.
semantic field
A semantic field is a group of words that are related in meaning because they belong to the same topic or category.
