๐Ÿ”„ Confusion Between Subject and Object Pronouns/Determiners

A

What happens?
Young children often mix up subject and object forms of pronouns because they havenโ€™t yet mastered the grammatical rules that govern how pronouns change depending on their role in a sentence.

๐Ÿ‘ค Subject vs. Object Pronouns:
Subject Case Object Case
I me
he him
she her
we us
they them
๐Ÿง  Common Errors:
Using object pronouns in subject position:
โŒ โ€œMe want juice.โ€
โœ… โ€œI want juice.โ€

Using subject pronouns in object position:
โŒ โ€œGive it to I.โ€
โœ… โ€œGive it to me.โ€

๐Ÿ“ฆ Determiner Confusion Example:
Children might also mix up possessive determiners (my, your, his, her) with pronouns.

โŒ โ€œMe toy.โ€ instead of โœ… โ€œMy toy.โ€

๐Ÿง’ Why it happens:
Children are still learning rules about sentence structure.

Some forms sound similar or are used more often, so they overgeneralize.
