Confusion Between Subject and Object Pronouns/Determiners Flashcards
๐ Confusion Between Subject and Object Pronouns/Determiners
What happens?
Young children often mix up subject and object forms of pronouns because they havenโt yet mastered the grammatical rules that govern how pronouns change depending on their role in a sentence.
๐ค Subject vs. Object Pronouns:
Subject Case Object Case
I me
he him
she her
we us
they them
๐ง Common Errors:
Using object pronouns in subject position:
โ โMe want juice.โ
โ
โI want juice.โ
Using subject pronouns in object position:
โ โGive it to I.โ
โ
โGive it to me.โ
๐ฆ Determiner Confusion Example:
Children might also mix up possessive determiners (my, your, his, her) with pronouns.
โ โMe toy.โ instead of โ โMy toy.โ
๐ง Why it happens:
Children are still learning rules about sentence structure.
Some forms sound similar or are used more often, so they overgeneralize.
