Output, Effectors and motor programmes Flashcards
whats a motor programme ?
A motor programme is a set of movements stored in the memory
* retrived from the LTM in the decision making process and ran in the STM.
* motor programmes are put into effect by effectors - nerves and muscles which move limbs
* they are well rehearsed and can be retrieved quicker and quicker through practice
* they can be modified if needed
whats an excecutive motor programme?
An excecutive motor programme is a series of sub routines into a correct sequence to **performe a movement. **
* E.g. a tennis stroke - grip, stance, swing, follow through
* it organises subroutines into a hierarchial structure.
* you cannot carry out an excecutive motor programme if you have not already mastered any one of the subroutines.
what did Fitts and Posner suggest when linking motor programmes and sub-routines to stages of learning?
- that the lowest of subroutines are carried out automatically.
- as the performer becomes more skillful the excecutive motor programmes become subroutines of larger executive motor programmes.
