Sofradex, Gentisone HC ear drops or Otomize spray

- Microsuction
- keep ears dry
- Topical clotrimazole or nystatin ear drops for 2 weeks
What is malignant/ necrotising otitis externa
Infection has spread from the ear canal to the bone causing osteomyelitis
What is the common presentation for malignant otitis externa
- Diabetic or immune supressed patient
- Long standing process
- Granulation tissue
- Systemic upset
- cranial nerve defects
- Increasing pain
What is exostoses
Surfers ear - abnormal bone growth in ear due to exposure to cold water

Benign bone tumour which doesn’t need removal if asymptomatic

Characteristic bubbles in the effusion

Grommet inserion to allow ventilation
What is the treatment for chronic tympanic memebrane perforation and discharge
Myringoplasty - close the hole in the ruptured tympanic membrane
What is tympanoscerosis
Thickening of the tympanic membrane
What is retractive otitis media
Eustachian tube has sucked out the air so the tympanic membrane has become a lot thinner and plastered onto the middle ear which causes erosion on the ossicles
