Use to drain the ear and it should be filled with warm water
What are some ear wax softeners?
Mineral Oil, Oils, pure glycerin
What is the direction of usage for softening earwax?
few drops BID 2-3 days
What are the products of your choice for ear wax removal?
Cerumol or Murine Ear wax system, Contains oils that do most of the ear wax softening
What is carbamide peroxide?
It is a bit more of a dissolving ear wax removal, Applied drop wise
What is Salinex?
It is a device that claims to get behind the earwax to shoot it back out
What is Earigate??
Ear saline doesnt have ear wax softening properties though
When should Ear wax be referred?
Foreign body in the ear
Pain
Dizziness
Tinnitus
Treatment failure
What is Tinnitus?
Ear ringing
Could be caused by ear wax resting on the eardrum
What is vertigo?
Inner ear issues due to a viral or bacterial infection
What are some treatments for Vertigo?
Antihistamines possible H3.
What are ear tubes?
They are surgically inserted to allow fluid to drain out of the middle ear.
How long do ear tubes last?
8-18 months and fall out on there own
What is Otitis externa?
Where the pulling of the tragus causes pain in a physical examination
What are some of the symptoms of Otitis externa?
Usually occur in summer, Movement of the tragus painful and the ear canal is swollen and itchy
What are some of the symptoms of Otitis media?
Eardrum is perforate or bulging, and is usually caused by an infection. Hearing is decreased
What are the bacterial causes of Swimmers ear?
Pseudomonas Aeruginosa and fungus Candida Albicans
What does chlorine do the inner ear?
Causes the ear to change from acidic to alkaline making the ear canal more susceptible to hosts
What are the MD only treatments of otitis externa?
Ciprofloxacen, flumethasone
