Other Personal Experience Questions Flashcards
What do you think people need to know about mental health?
That no one is immune. I think people often believe that just because they are smart or well educated means that it won’t affect them or that is only limited to people who don’t try hard enough for better circumstances in life. It does not discriminate and even the people who appear most happy and put together can be suffering.
What motivates you to work in psychiatric nursing?
The world needs more compassion and I have a strong belief that everyone deserves to be cared for when they are struggling. Not everyone has access to a good support system and this makes them feel alone. I have always felt the calling to try to understand others and make use of my therapeutic use of self.
Explain a time when you felt your biases made you resist change?
When I first started I had overconfidence bias: overestimated ability to predict a patients behaviour. Recognized that no one is able to 100% accurately predict as patients can be unpredictable, and it is more important to consider all possibilities, or else you may be missing out on important hints.
