Other intrinsic muscles of the hand Flashcards
What are the origins of Adductor pollicis?
Oblique Head: bases of 2nd and 3rd metacarpals, capitate and adjacent carpals
Transverse Head: Anterior surface of body of 3rd metacarpal
What is the insertion of adductor pollicis?
Medial side of base of proximal phalanx of thumb and sesamoid bone
What is the innervation of adductor pollicis?
Deep branch of the ulnar nerve (C8, T1)
Where do the lumbricals originate?
Flexor digitorum profundus tendon
Where do the lumbricals insert?
Extensor hood - unique in connecting flexor and extensor compartments which expalins the actions
What is the action of the the lumbricles?
Flexing the metacarpophalangeal joint
Extending the interphalangeal joint
What is the innervation of the lumbricles?
The Medial Bipennate lumbricals are supplied by deep branch of the ulnar nerve
The lateral two unipennate lumbricals are supplied by the median nerve
Where do the palmar interosseous muscles originate?
Palmar surfaces of 2nd, 4th and 5th metacarpals.
Where do the palmar interosseous muscles insert?
Extensor expansions of digits and bases of proximal phalanges of digits 2, 4, and 5
What is the innervation of the interosseous muscles?
Deep branch of the ulnar nerve (C8, T1)
What is the origin of the dorsal interosseous muscles?
Adjacent sides of two metacarpals(bipennate muscles)
Where do the dorsal interosseous muscles insert?
Extensor expansions and bases of proximal phalanges of digits 2-4
