Limb Development Flashcards
When does limb development occur?
Weeks 4 to 8
What phase does limb development happen?
mid to late embryonic phase
When do the limb buds form?
Week 4
Where do the limb buds come from?
outpouchings from the venterolateral wall
From which layers are the initial buds derived from?
Lateral plate mesoderm core covered by a layer of ectoderm
From which layer of the skeletal muscle derived?
Paraxial Mesoderm
What forms the bones and connective tissues?
Lateral mesoderm differentiates into mesenchyme which forms bones and connective tissues
What are somites
Blocks of paraxial mesoderm that forms on each side of the neural tube
What happens to somites?
Divide into 2, ventral and dorsolateral
What does the epimere form?
Back muscles, innervated by dorsal rami
Which somites form the vertebral column?
ventral
Which somites form the dermis and skeletal muscle?
Dorsolateral;, forms a dermomyotome which divides into a dermatome and myotome
At which level is the developing limb bud?
C5 - C8
What does the hypomere form?
Muscles of thoracic and abdominal walls; innervated by ventral rami
