Anterior and Posterior compartment of the arm Flashcards
What is the origin of biceps brachii?
Short head: apex of the coracoid process of scapula
Long head: supraglenoid tubercule of scapula, before passing over the head of humerus and under the transverse humeral ligament
Where does biceps brachii insert?
Inserts as a single tendon into the radial tuberosity and also forms the bicipital aponeurosis which covers the cubital fossa
What is the innervation of the whole anterior compartment of the arm?
Musculocutaneous Nerve (C5, C6, C7)
What is the action of biceps brachii?
Acessory Flexor of the elbow joint, primary action is supination.
Long head prevents superior movement of humerus on the glenoid fossa.
What is the origin of brachialis?
Anterior, distal 1/2 of humerus
What is the insertion of brachialis?
Coranoid process and tuberosity of the ulna
What is the action of brachialis?
Primary flexor of the elbow joint
Where does coracobrachialis originate?
Apex of the coracoid process of scapula
Where does coracobrachialis insert?
Small linear roughening on the mid-medial surface of the humerus
What is the action of coracobrachialis?
Flexes the arm at the GH joint
What is the origin of triceps brachii?
Long head: infraglenoid tubercule of scapula
Medial head: inferior 2/3 of posterior humerus
Lateral head: proxmial portion of posterior humerus, superior to the radial groove
Where does triceps brachii insert?
Posterior olecranon process of ulna
What is the common innervation of the posterior compartment?
Radial Nerve (C6, C7, C8)
What is the action of triceps brachii?
Extension of the elbow
Where does brachioradialis originate?
Proximal 2/3 of lateral supracondyle ridge of humerus
