Ax can be used if suspect bacterial
When do you give Ax
If fever, cough, SOB >24 hours
Amoxicillin = 1st line
Oral macrolide
IV if vomit
What is tracheitis
Inflammation of trachea
Often occurs with LRTI

Barking cough Pain down chest when cough Stridor Fever VERY SICK

CO-amox Ax
What is bronchitis
Very common endobronchial infection
Mucociliary escalator switched off
Infection on top of this so no Ax needed
What causes
RSV
Adenovirus
2 infection
H. influenza
Pneumococcus
What are the symptoms of bronchitis
Loose rattly cough (7-25 days)
URTI
Mucous brought up
Increased work of breathing due to narrow tube
Can be recurrent in winter due to exposed to virus
What is not present in bronchitis
No wheeze
No crepitations

CXR and lungs normal
How do Rx
Self-limitng
What is bronchiolitis
Very common LRTI of infants
What causes bronchiolitis
RSV
Para influenza
HMPV
