Cluttering
A disorder of speech and language formulation; speech is rapid, imprecise, dysrhythmic, and disorganized. People who clutter are often unaware of their cluttering.
Differences between stuttering and cluttering
PWC tend to be late talkers, repeat whole phrases, are never very fluent, have poor articulation, prosody, reading, and writing, and their skills often improve with pressure.
PWS tend to be precocious talkers, have part word repetitions and blocks, have fluent episodes, typical artic usually, and typical reading and writing. PWS are also very aware of their stuttering
Cluttering tends to improve with
Increased self-awareness; strategies incorporating articulation, pragmatics, and prosody
Neurogenic suttering
Acquired in adulthood due to a CNS impairment
Symptoms of neurogenic stuttering
Less variability in context; stuttering can happen anywhere in speech; less adaptation effect; less cognitive and emotional involvement
Psychogenic stuttering
Secondary to psychological trauma
Psychogenic stuttering symptoms
Sudden onset in adulthood; common to have dx of depression or other psychological dx; indifferent towards stutter; stuttering occurs even in fluency enhancing situations.
