Prodromal phase:
Runny nose
Cough

Eruptive phase:
Maculopapular, blotchy, and red patches that will blanch if pressed appearing around ears before spreading to face and limbs
When are people with measles infectious?
From onset of symptoms until at least 4 days afte rash develops
How are the symptoms of measles treated?
Paracetamol - pain and fever
Hydration
Eye hygeine and cleaning
What are the symptoms of mumps?
Fever
Headache
Inflammation of parotid glands on one or both sides of the face that cause pain when mouth is opened
When are people with mumps infectious?
From onset of symptoms until at least 5 days from onset of rash
What is the incubation period for Rubella?
14 - 21 days
What are the symptoms of rubella?
Prodromal phase:
Swollen glands at the back of the neck
Malaise
Fever
Eruption phase:
Very fine, blanching, macular rash on face that spreads to limbs that lasts for 3 - 5 days
Painful joints in adults
When are people with rubella infectious?
From onset of symptoms until at least 6 days after the onset of rash
When is whooping cough infectious?
From onset of cough for either 21 days or 5 days after starting Abx
How long is the incubation period for whooping cough?
5 - 21 days
When should a patient with eczema be referred?
- Signs of infection
- Severe symptoms such as bleeding
- Unresponsive to treatment
- Cause not identifiable
- Symptoms lasting longer than 2 weeks
What are some treatment used for eczema?
Topical corticosteroids
Emollients such as Epaderm or Cetraben
Hydrocortisone cream cannot be supplied for the use in children under what age?
10 years and below
Clobetasone cannot be supplied for the use in children under what age?

What are some commonly used OTC preparations for treatment of acne vulgaris?
Acneside (benzoyl peroxide)

When is it appropriate to refer a patient with cold sores?
- Babies and young children
- Lasted longer than 2 weeks
- Eye affected
- Immunocompromised patient
What pregnancy prevention measures need to be taken for male patients taking mycophenolate?
They or their female partner must use effective contraception during treatment and for 90 days after discontinuation
What pregnancy prevention measures need to be taken for female patients taking mycophenolate?
They need to use 2 effective types of contraception during treatment for 6 weeks after discontinuation
What is the first line treatment for scarlet fever?
Pen V for 10 days
Can spacers be sold OTC?
Yes
How often do spacers need to be replaced?
Annually
How often and how do spacers need cleaning?
They can be cleaned with soap and water and should be left to air dry every 6 months
What is the main counselling point with regards to administration of permethrin for scabies?
If you wash your hands with soap within 8 hours of application, they should be treated again with cream
