A
-Progressive skeletal disease with reduced bone mass and micro-architectural deterioration of bone-tissue

A
- ≥1 is normal
- Between -1 and -2.5 is osteopenia
- ≤2.5 is osteoporosis
- DEXA scan most commonly used

- Age related
- More common in women

A
- Process is asymptomatic
- Usually presents after bone fracture
- Most common in spine, hip and wrist

- DEXA is gold standard
- Screen for endocrine/autoimmune causes

A
- Bisphosphonate (try alendronate then either risedronate or etidronate)
- Denosumab second line in women, third line in men (reduces osteoclast activity)
- Teriparatide third line in women, second line in men (PTH receptor agonist)
- Raloxifene 4th line in women
