Q
haematogenus vs non-haematogenous osteomyelitis ?
A
haematogenous
- results from bacteraemia
- most common form in children
- usually mono microbial
- risk factors: sickle cell, immunosuppression, IV drug abuse, endocarditis
non-haematogenous
- results from contagious spread of infection or direct trauma / injury to bone
- commonest form in adults
- polymicrobial
- risk factors: diabetes, diabetic ulcers, pressure sores, PAD
