Osteomyelitis Flashcards
Kids
Acute OM often in metaohysis in kids as static blood
BS
10% BS from endostium from nutrient A- cut off in infec due to incr press.
90% from periost soft tiss
Features of chronic osteomyelitis
-sequestrum
Periost stripping in infec causes nec and sequestrum formation.
In infec/tum periost lays bone on top of it when raised, get calcific of BV below causing sunblast app and codmans triangle.
-involucrum
New bone formation
Comm sites of septic arth from local spread
Sites with intra artic epiph as infec can spread to synov cav
Bones with necks eg Femur Radius Fibula Humerus
Sources of infec
Commonly haematogenous- septacaemia or local.
