identify these cranial bones:
parietal
frontal
occipital
mandible
maxilla
temporal
see image
what are the four categories of bone location
1) cranial
2) post cranial
3) axial ( head, ribcage, vertabrae)
4) appendicular- shoulder, pelvis, limbs
what are the four types of bone
1) long bones ( femur, tibia, humurus, phalanges)
2) short bones ( carpals, tarsals)
3) flat bones ( sternum, scapula, patela)
4) irregular ( vertabrae,
what are the four functions of bone
1) protection
2) structure
3) blood cell production
4) reservoir for minerals
what are the two bone materials and where do they appear
1) cortical bone- strong compact
2) cancellous/trabecular- spongey, porous beams
cranial bone is a bone sandwich
long bones have cortical mostly and then cancellous on the ends
flat bones have cancellous on the inside
What are the two types of bone marrow and what do they do?
red ( hematopoeitic tissue)- blood cell production, in the spongey bone
yellow- fat reserves in them long bones
Identify each element of anatomical nomenclature
up down
inner body to outer limbs
ass to cooch
side to side
- superior vs. inferior
- proximal to distal
- posterior to anterior
- medial to lateral
