Management of osteoarthritis
A
Exercise (local muscle strengthening and general aerobic
fitness)
• Paracetamol and topical NSAIDs first
• Arthroscopic lavage and debridement should not be offered
routinely
• Standard NSAID or a COX-2 inhibitor should be co-
prescribed with a proton pump inhibitor (PPI)
• Joint replacement surgery only if substantial impact on their
quality of life and are refractory to non- surgical treatment
