Q

Pathophysiology of Osgood-Schlatter Disease (3).

A
  1. Traction Apophysitis - Multiple minor avulsion fractures occur where the patella ligament pulls away tiny pieces of the bone.
  2. Growth of Tibial Tuberosity - Osteochondrosis caused by inflammation.

Q

Clinical Presentation of Osgood-Schlatter Disease (3).

A

Gradual Onset :

  1. Visible/Palpable Hard and Tender Lump at Tibial Tuberosity.
  2. Pain in Anterior Knee.
  3. Exacerbated by Physical Activity, Kneeling/Extending Knee.

Q

Management of Osgood-Schlatter Disease (2).

A
  1. Initial - Reduce Pain and Inflammation : Rest, Ice, NSAIDs.
  2. Stretching + Physiotherapy to strengthen joint and improve function.

Q

Prognosis of Osgood-Schlatter Disease (2).

A
  1. Symptoms resolve fully over time but bony lump remains.
  2. Rare Complication : Complete Avulsion Fracture (Tibial Tuberosity separated from rest of Tibia) = Surgical Intervention.
