What are the anaesthetic issues related to hip fracture surgery

Patient
Consent - cognitive impairment, anxiety.
Past Medical History
Anticoagulation

Anaesthetic
GA vs Spinal
GA - avoid hyptension , minimise doses use BIS, try to maintain spont breathing to avoid atelectasis, barotrauma and hypotension associated with PPV

Spinal - Consider dose and use of opioids. use of sedation
TIming of Surgery - ‘‘delay’’ vs optimise
Analgesia - wanting to avoid opioids and NSAIDs
Avoiding hypotension

Post operative - location, orthogeris, early physio and mobilisation, monitor for delirium

Surgical
Modality eg screw , DHS, Hemi arthroplasty
Cement or no cement
