Ortho appliaces Flashcards
What is First order bends?
Controls horizontal. Faciolingual bends in wire to compensate for differences in faciolingual widths of individual teeth.
What is Second order bends?
MD tip. Bends inciso-gingival placed that dictates MD angulation of teeth and their roots.
What is Third order bends?
Inclination Torque. Bends that dictate faciolingual position of roots.
When diameter of wire is doubled, what happens to strength, springiness/stiffness, and range?
Strength= increases 2 to the 3rd power Springiness/Stiffness= stiffness Increases 2 to the 4th power Range= Decreases by half.
Stiffness/springiness is what changes the most.
Stainless steel has a high what?
Highest modulus of elasticity (very stiff).
What increases strength in Elgiloy/RMO?
Heat treatments.
What is the desired quality of NiTi wires? When is it used?
- Hysteresis
- Used for initial treatment
What is the desired quality of TMA? USed for?
- Formability
- Used for finishing treatment.
Angulation relates to what? All permanant teeth have what angulation?
- MD tip.
- All have positive angulation.
What is inclination? What teeth are positive and negative?
- Buccolingual inclination
- All teeth are negative, except max incisors.
What is edge-wise appliance?
Rectangular wire place into rectangular bracket with its longest dimension being horizontal.
