Crutches

- Length
- 2-3 fingerwidths below anterior anxillary fold to a lateral and slightly in front of foot
- not measured from any point on the foot
- Handgrips
- Elbow flexion will be 30 degrees
- Gaits
- 2 Point
- move one crutch and opposite foot together
- two affected legs; mild problems
- 3 point
- move two crutches and bad leg together
- when one leg is affected
- 4 point
- everything moved independently
- two affected legs; severe problems
- Swing through
- non-weight bearing
- for two braced extremities
- for amputees

- Stairs
- Up with the good, down with the bad
- → crutch moves with the bad leg
- Up with the good, down with the bad

Cane
A
- Hold cane on the unaffected side
- Advance cane with the opposite side for a wide base of support

Walker
A
- Use
- pick up → set it down → walk to it
- do not tie belongings to front of the walker
- sides ok
- Chair to walker
- hold on to chair → stand up → grab walker
