What is an organ?
An organ is a collection of millions of cells which group together to preform single functions in our body
Function of heart
Pumps blood to the lungs and around the body
Function of lungs
Inhalation and exhalation of gases linked to respiration
Function of brain
Recurved and sends neurones impulses as a means of communication.
Function of stomach
Churns and mixes food into a paste (chyme) as it begins digestion
Function of liver
Large number of functions such as secrets bile and salts and stores glycogen
Function of pancreas
Secretes digestive juices down ducts to small intestine
Secretes insulin and glucagon
Function of Duodenum
Passes chyme to ileum and secretes major digestive secretions
Function of ileum
Passes undigested chyme to colon
Absorbs nutrients into blood stream
Function of colon
Absorbs water producing semi solid faeces
Function of kidneys
Eliminate waste products and water maintaining homeostasis
Function of bladder
Collects and stored urine until appropriate time for release
Function of ovaries
Produce ova or eggs and secretes hormones
Function of testes
Produce spermatozoa and secrete hormones
Function of uterus
Produces New epithelium monthly, support and protects foetus until birth,
Contracts powerfully to expel foetus and placenta during birth.
Function of skin
Water and bacteria proof covering,
Assists body temperature
Regulates homeostasis
