Organic/Simple Structure
A
- usually smaller company
- work groups are flexible
- PM doesn’t have a lot of authority, owner of the organization has the final say
- Resources as needed

Functional Organization
A
- Clear division of business units (departments)
- PMs don’t have a lot of authority, functional manager has the say and manages the budget
- Usually the PM is in a part time role with their other time being spent on operations

Multidivisional Structure
A
- Similar to Functional organization
- Much larger with replication of the roles for each department
- PM has little authority, functional manager is the highest authority

Weak Matrix
A
- Team has a blend of departmental duties, project team members come from all over the organization
- PM has little authority and is often working part time
- ## Functional manager manages the project budget

Balanced Matrix
A
- Project Team members come from all over the organization
- Low to moderate PM authority
- Sharing management of the budget with functional manager
- Can be a bit of a power struggle

Strong Matrix
A
- PM has a lot of authority
- Full time resources
- PM is managing the budget

Project Orientated
A
- Everyone is working on the project full time
- PM has the most power and is managing the budget
- Full time administrative staff helping with logistics/templates/documents

Virtual Organization
A
- Individuals actings as points of contacts for different departments
- Network of individual contacts between groups
- Communication can be difficult
- PM has little authority
- Funtional Manager and Project Manager sharing responsibility for the budget

Hybrid Organization
A
- Blend of any of the other organization structure types
- PM Authority and role depends on the project
- Functional Manager and/or PM can manage the budget

A
- PM is part of the PMO
- Manages and controls all projects
- PMO control is high
- Since the PM is in the PMO they have high authority on the project and budget

A
- Defines project governance
- Create the framework and give that to the PMs
- Create templates/forms
- PM authority is moderate
