At the start. As the projects moves closer to project completion, the higher the odds of finishing become.
What is the role of a project manager?
- Manage things, lead people
- Manage the project, lead people to a conclusion

- Result of the position of the project manager.
- AKA Formal, Authoritative and legitimate power
What is Informational Power?
- The PM can control data gathering and distrobution
Referent Power
- PM has worked with people before and has relationship with them.
- Respected and admired because of past experiences
Situational Power
Based on the current situation such as change in leadership or change in project team that gives someone power
Personal or Charismatic Power
You have power because of your good personality. People like you.
Reward Power
Team sees the PM as someone who can reward them so they behave accordingly
Ingratiating Power
Gains favor through flattery. False power as this wears down.
Pressure-based Power
PM can restrict choices to get the project team to do the work.
Ex. You can off for the weekend if you get your work done
Guilt-based power
- PM makes the project team feel guilty in order to gain compliance
Persuasive power
- persuade people toward a specific outcome or decision
