Organization of the Human Body Flashcards
Organizational Level Chemical
The chemical level involves interactions among atoms and their combination into molecules
Organizational Level Organelle
A small structure contained within a cell that performs one or more specific functions
Organizational Level Cell
Basic functional units of life.
Organizational Level Tissue
A group of cells with similar structures and functions
Organizational Level Organ
Composed of two or more tissue types that together perform one or more common functions
Organizational Level Organ System
A group of organs classified as a unit because of a common function or set of functions
Organizational Level Organism
Any living thing considered as a whole.
Sagittal plane
Separates body into right and left
Midsagittal Plane
divides the body into two equal halves
transverse plane
separates body into superior and inferior
Coronal plane
Separates body into anterior and posterior
Connective Tissue Structure and Function
Structure: Charactered by extracellular material that separate cells from on another
Function: Enclosing and Separating, connecting tissues to one another, Supportive and moving, Cushioning and insulating.
Epithelial tissue structure and function
Structure: Classified according to the number of cell layers and shapes
Function: Protecting underlying structures, Secreting substances, allow passage of some substances.
Muscle tissue structure and function
Structure: Cells of muscles resemble long threads and are called fibers
Function: providing movement.
Neural tissue structure and function
Structure: cells are Composed of dendrites cell bodies and axons
Function: Coordinating and controlling many body activities
