What is random sampling? (4 marks)
Use a method to determine a random coordinate ( computer programme/ dice) Place quadrat Count all organisms Repeat 10 times Repeat 10 times in another area Compare results
How do you calculate a mean average?
Add together all the values in the data and divide by the total number of values
How do you find the mode?
The most common value in a set of data
How do you find the median?
The middle value in a set of data
How do you calculate a population size in a sample area?
Work out the mean/ metre squared Multiply by the total area ( in m2) of the habitat
What is a transect?
A line which you sample in an area ( usually a tape)
