Organells/Tissues Flashcards

1
Q

Tissues

A

Formed by groups of specialized cells.

Four main types of tissues: Nervous tissue, Epithelial tissue, Muscle tissue, Connective tissue.

Q

Epithelial Tissue

A

Sheets of cells that cover the exterior surfaces of the body.
Ex: Lining of hollow organs (intestines), Epidermis (skin)

Connective Tissue

A

Binds the cells and organs of the body together and functions in the protection, support, and integration of all parts of the body.
Ex: Fat and other soft tissues, Bone, Tendons

A

Responds to stimulation and contracts to provide movement, and occurs as three major types: Skeletal (voluntary), Smooth, Cardiac (heart)

Nervous Tissue

A

Allows the propagation of electrochemical signals in the form of nerve impulses that communicate between different regions of the body.
Ex: Brain, Spinal cord, Nerves

Q

Tissue Membranes

A

Thin layer or sheet of cells that cover the outside of the body, organs, internal passageways, and lining of moveable joint cavities.
Ex: Connective tissue, Epithelial membranes
