Organelles and Tissues Flashcards
Cell Membrane
controls what goes in and out of cell (ex: the bouncer)
Nucleus
brain of the cell
Cytoplasm
hold other organelles in place (ex: stapler in jello)
Mitochondria
makes energy (powerhouse)
Golgi Apparatus
packages proteins (Amazon warehouse)
Endoplasmic Reticulum
transports proteins (Amazon prime drivers)
Ribosomes
makes proteins
Lysosome
disposes of waste
Nervous Tissue
allows the propagation of electrochemical signals in the form of nerve impulses that communicate between different regions of the body (brain, spinal cord, and nerves)
Epithelial Tissue
sheets of cells that cover the exterior surfaces of the body (intestines and skin)
Muscle Tissue
responds to stimulation and contracts to provide movement (skeletal-voluntary, smooth, and cardiac-involuntary)
Connective Tissue
binds the cells and organs of the body together and functions in the protection, support, and integration of all parts of the body (fat/other soft tissues, bone, and tendons)
Tissue Membranes
thin layer or sheet of cells that cover the outside of the body, organs, internal passageways, and lining of moveable joint cavities (connective tissue and epithelial membranes)
Tissues
formed by groups of specialized cells.
Organelles
parts of a cell
