Organelles and Tissues Flashcards
Cell Membrane
Controls what goes in and out of the cell, the bouncer
Nucleus
Cells brain
Cytoplasm
Hold other organelles in place, like jello
Mitochondria
the powerhouse of the cell
Golgi Apparatus
package protein, the Amazon warehouse
Endoplasmic Reticulum
transports proteins, Amazon deliverer
Ribosomes
makes proteins
Lysosome
disposes of waste
Differentiation
The process a cell becomes specialized to perform a specific function
4 types of tissues
nervous
epithelial
muscle
connective
epithelial tissue
sheets of cells that cover the exterior surfaces of the body.
ex. lining of hollow organs (intestines) and epidermis (skin)
connective tissue
binds the cells and organs of the body together and functions in the protection, support, and integration of all parts of the body.
ex. Fat and soft tissues, bone, tendons
Muscle tissue
responds to stimulation and contracts to provide movement, and occurs as three major types:
skeletal
smooth
cardiac
nervous
allows the propagation of electro chemical signals in the form of nerve impulses that communicates between different regions of the body
ex. brain
spinal cord
nerves
tissue membranes
thin sheets of cells that cover the outside of the body, organs, internal passageways, and lining of moveable joint cavities,
connective tissue
epithelial membranes
