What are organelles?
Organelles: Organs of a cell
What is the membrane?
The outside layer of a cell: boarder patrol; only lets certain materials get in
What is the nucleus?
The city hall: contains information (DNA) and sends out instructions for the cell
What are ribosomes?
The factories: create proteins and instruction manuals for the other organelles to follow (rRNA + mRNA)
What is the endoplasmic reticulum?
The assembly line: endoplasmic (little net inside the plasma)
Rough ER: ribosomes on the outside - makes proteins
Smooth ER: no ribosomes - makes carbs and fats
What are lysosomes?
Waste management: breaks down waste/byproducts
What are the golgi bodies?
The post office: how things get delivered; the packages (vesicles)
What is the mitochondria?
The powerhouse: makes energy in a form of ATP; every living thing runs off of ATP
What does ATP stand for?
Adenosine triphospate
