Cellular Transport Flashcards
1
Q
What is Cellopolis?
A
Cellopolis: cell transportation; how cells send and receive things from other cells and its environment
2
Q
What does the cell membrane do?
A
It regulates the flow of substances in and out of a cell
3
Q
What are the two types of transport?
A
Passive and active
4
Q
How does passive transportation work?
A
- By diffusion: Molecules need to separate when there’s too many of them
- Stuff needs to move in and out, they need an exit: the cell provides a tunnel through the membrane bilayer (channel: allows one specific material in (facilitated diffusion))
5
Q
How does active transportation work?
A
- Cellopolis sends materials through golgi bodies: golgi bodies do the same by packaging materials into vesicles and sending them to the membrane
- Membrane dissolves an exit for materials: they leave the cell ((exocytosis) opposite; endocytosis)
6
Q
What do pump channels do?
A
They do the opposite of diffusion, they also require energy to force things into crowded areas
7
Q
What does exo and endo mean?
A
Exo = outside
Endo = inside
