Oral Pathology Flashcards
diseases
glandular odontogenic cyst (GOC)
benign but rapidly growing odontogenic cyst that most often manifests in the anterior mandible.
Radiographically, a GOC appears identical to other odontogenic cysts, making biopsy and histopathological analysis necessary for diagnosis.
recurrence means an aggressive treatment modality, such as a segmental jaw resection,
Calcifying Odontoenic Cyst
COC
calcifying odontogenic cyst
originates –> odontogenic epithelium.
Treatment –> enucleation and curettage
favorable prognosis and a low chance of recurrence.
Dentigerous cysts
Dentigerous cysts–> remnant of the reduced enamel epithelium and are exclusively pericoronal
associated with the crown of an unerupted tooth
Treatment–>enucleation and extraction of the associated tooth.
prognosis –>favorable, with a low chance of recurrence.
lateral periodontal cyst
lateral periodontal cyst is a true developmental odontogenic cyst that occurs along the lateral root surface of a vital tooth.
Treatment for lateral periodontal cysts consists of conservative surgical excision or enucleation.
gastrocnemius
The gastrocnemius muscle is the chief muscle of the calf of the leg and flexes the knee and foot.
It is involved in ankle movement.
Rotator cuff
The rotator cuff is a group of muscles and tendons surrounding the shoulder joint.
Dentists can injure their rotator cuff through repetitive or sustained movements, awkward postures, or excessive force during dental procedures.
trapezius muscle
The trapezius muscle spans the upper back and neck.
It assists in movements of the head, neck, and shoulders.
Leaning forward, holding the head in a fixed position, and repetitive movements can lead to muscle fatigue, stiffness, and discomfort in this muscle.
Gingiva sulcuous
The gingival sulcus is a space between a tooth and its surrounding gingiva.
The gingival sulcus is apically bound by the junctional epithelium.
This is where the periodontal probe encounters resistance when measuring pocket depth.
The junctional epithelium is part of the gingiva that connects the connective tissue to the root surface.
