What is a Class C baggage compartment
Must have smoke and fire detection, and FIREX system controlled from flight deck.
Smoke, flames, or Halon, etc cannot be able to enter PAX compartment
Ventilation within compartment must be controllable

What do engines use to detect fire?
A tube filled with helium with hydrogen filled core (detects pressure changes due to heat)

What happens if sensor integrity switch is open?
Engine or APU FIREDET FAIL caution message
What are indications of an engine fire
Fire handle lights, aural warning, EICAS warning, Master warning lights flash
what are indications of APU fire?
Aural warning, EICAS Warning, master warning
What happens if APU fire detected on the ground?
APU shuts down automatically
How many bottles?
2 for engines, 1 for APU

Tailcone
Can you use either bottle for either engine?
Yes
Can you fire bottle twice?
no, it can damage bottle.
How do you fire APU fire bottle
Press APU FIRE extinguishing button
What does EXTBLT INOP mean
It’s been fired or is inop
What happens when engine bottle handle is pulled?
Hydraulics, Bleeds, Cowls, and and Fuel all shutoff
What happens when APU Fire button is pushed?
fuel shuts off, blows the bottle, and sends stop request to fadec for shut down
ow many seconds must you push Fire test button

What do you see in Fire test?
3,4,5….3 lights over head, 4 lights on glare shield, and 5 EICAS messages. Also aural warning and baggage circ. fan shuts off
what if you hold fire test button more than 10 seconds on the ground?
APU will shut down
Repeating fire test…how long do you wait?
6 seconds between tests
If you hold fire test less than 2 seconds…
the baggage extg button may stay lit…repeat the test.

What happens if smoke detected in the LAV?
LAV SMOKE on EICAS

Smoke detected or fan deactivated
What has happened if BAGG EXTG light is lit, but no BAGG SMOKE on EICAS
fan deactivated
How many Fire bottles for Baggage, and how are they different?
2, one is quick discharge…one is metered for 50 minutes of discharged They are in rear electronic compartment
If smoke no longer detected in baggage what happens?
Fan turns back on, and BAGG EXTG light goes off
What does BAGG EXTBTL INOP mean
bottles have been used, or they’re inop
What happens when BAGG EXTG is pushed?
Bottles blow, and record fan is turned off
