surgeon prep
attire: clean scrubs, trim nails, remove all rings, earrings, and bracelets, wear cap and mask
scrub:
1. apply antiseptic and lather
2. clean fingernails –> fingers –> palm –> wrist –> distal forearm –> proximal forearm –> elbow
3. keep hands elevated
gowning and gloving
using sterile technique to put on gown and gloves
keep hands elevated above elbows and hold arms away from body when moving
draping order
- place the 4 corner drapes
- use towel clamps to hold drapes down
- apply top drapes using the “head” guideline toward the patient’s head
- extend top drape cranially first, then caudally to cover the back table
