What are verbal orders that are okay to adhere to?
- STAT - in an emergency situation; dr must sign order as soon as possible.
- Over the phone if supervisor approves.
If you are given orders over the phone, what must you do to ensure you have written the correct info?
Ask the Dr to repeat it and repeat it back to the doctor.
When are verbal orders absolutely prohibited?
Schedule II drugs (look up)
What are standing orders?
Orders in place for routine circumstances; ex. before diagnostic test “NPO.” p.67

What are automatic stop orders?
Meds given for a limited time such as narcotics post surgery. No refills allowed unless dr orders new scrip.
What is an inscription?
name of drug + dosage + qty to be dispensed. p.67
Do med labels include the route of administration?
They do not IF the med is to be taken orally. If not orally, it will state what route to take.
Labels should contain the TRADE NAME,

Generic name
Route (if not oral)
Lot Number
