optical isomers Flashcards
what are optical isomers
type of sterioisomers where four different structure attactched to one carbon atom r
what are enantiomers
a pair of optical isomers that are super non imposable mirror images of each oter
why are they called optical isomers
because they differ in the way tah tthey rotate the plane of lght
what is racemate mixure
when two optical isomers are present in equal abundance 50/50 they rotate polarised light in opposite ways so overall cancel out so has no effect
how do optical isomers play a part in drug industry
the optical isomers formed only one is effective and the other is inactive
how do we separate optical isomers
we can try separate but this may be expensive
