Ops A 7 FTLs Flashcards

1
Q
  • Scheduled Reporting times?
A
  • FDP (including positioning)
    * STD -60 (unless notified to crew member such as HKG)
    * If cabin crew have to sign on earlier than flight crew (such as HKG), their max FDP sign on and rest requirements will be based on the Flight crews reporting time

Q
  • Scheduled Finishing times ?
A
  • Scheduled Time of Arrival (STA) of the final sector of the FDP
    • Duty period ends at STA + 30mins & this is when the rest period begins
    • Other duties (sims), termination of the duty period is the time the duty is scheduled to end

Q
  • Actual finishing times
    • FDP
A
  • finishes at chocks on or engines off, whichever is later, or
    * When a crew member has provided in-flight relief and is free from all duty for the rest of the flight, the rest shall be considered as positioning

Q

    • Duty Period
A
  • ATA on blocks + 30 minutes (or such later time as required by non-normal post flight duties) & that’s when the rest period commences

Q
  • Delayed reporting time, how to calculate max FDP?
A
  • When informed of a delay before leaving the place of rest, FDP calculated as follows:
    * Delay less than 4 hours, the max FDP will be determined by the more limiting time band of the original report and actual reporting time. FDP will start at actual reporting time
    * Delay is more than 4 hours, the max FDP will be determined by the actual reporting time
    * In the event of a second or any subsequent delays, use the above conditions

Q

What is split duty?

A
  • Split duty is when an FDP consists of 2 or more sectors separated by a period of rest less than a minimum rest period
  • The Standard FDP may be extended by a period equal to half the period of rest taken provided that;
    • The rest is at least 3 hours to 10 hours, and
    • Portion of FDP either side of the period of rest must not exceed 10 hours, and
    • Max allowable FDP using the provision of split duty will be 18 hours
  • May not be used when the FDP has already been extended by in flight relief
  • Period of rest must not include post or pre flight duties, nor travelling time
  • If the rest is 6 hours or less, then a quiet and comfortable place not open to the public is suffice. If more than 6 hours, or covers 3 hours between 2200-0800 local time then suitable accommodation must be provided
  • The period of rest may be taken on the aircraft on the ground - check 7.1.14.3 for requirements

Q

7.1.14.4 Extension of FDP by In-Flight Relief? Bunk & seat only?

A
  • Minimum rest to extend FDP is 3 hours
  • The relief need not be continuous
    • Bunk available:
      • FDP extended by half the total relief, up to a maximum of 18 hours
    • Only a seat available
      • FDP extended by 1/3 of the total relief, up to a maximum of 15 hours
  • The maximum amount of inflight relief that can be provided is the actual sector time less one hour
  • If an extended ground delay occurs, rest may be taken on the ground in the aircraft. See 7.1.14.3 for requirements

Q

7.1.15 Long Range Operations

A
  • 3 pilots boarded
    • Calculated using Table A or Table B in STO and extended in accordance with STO operations
    • The above is limited depending on rest
      • If the rest was as long as the previous FDP or 34 hours, max FP limited to 14.75 hours
      • When the rest does not include a physiological rest, max FDP is limited to 13 hours
    • No more than 2 sectors scheduled within a single FDP
    • Only one sector scheduled with a sector in excess of 13 hours
  • 4 pilots boarded
    • Max FDP is 18 hours, regardless of consideration of acclimatisation or time of start of FDP
    • No more than 2 sectors scheduled within a single FDP
    • No flight crew member will receive less than 3 hours total in flight relief, which needs not be continuous
      • For each additional sector flown (both 3 & 4 pilots case), the max FDP will be reduced by 45 minutes
      • If on the day extended ground delays occur, rest on the aircraft may be counted as relief

Q

7.1.16 Ultra Long Range Operations (ULR)

A
  • 4 pilots must be boarded
  • Max FDP is 19 hours, regardless of considerations of acclimatisation or FDP start time
  • No more than one sector may be scheduled within a single FDP
  • Commanders discretion may add another sector. Max FDP will be reduced by 45 minutes in this case
  • No more than 2 ULRO sectors will be scheduled in a duty cycle
  • No crew member shall receive less than 3 hours rest, which need not be continuous
  • If on the day extended ground delays occur, rest on the aircraft may be counted as relief

Q

When do you need physiological rest?

A
  • When the time difference between the planes where the previous FDP started and finished is 6 hours or more, the minimum rest period which must be provided is
    * Where the rest started within 72 after the start of the FDP that resulted in the crew member becoming unacclimatised (all 777 flights), the rest period must be
    * At least as long as the previous duty, or
    * A period sufficient to allow a sleep opportunity within 22:00 to 08:00 Home Base local time
    * 14 hours, whichever is greater, or
    * As an alternative, it may be 34 hours

Q

7.2.2 Reduction of Rest Period ?

A
  • The minimum time the room must be available to crew members is 10 hours
    • After a ULRO FDP, the normal 2 physiological rest requirement can be reduced to 1 physiological rest period
  • Commander must submit a CDR and give reasons for his decision. If the reduction was more than 1 hour, then the company must submit a CDR to the CAD within 7 days of the aircrafts return to Hong Kong
