AWO Questions Flashcards
What is the alert height of the B777?
200 ft RA
What does the alert height mean?
The AFDS will not change annunciation from LAND 3 to LAND 2 below the alert height as multiple autopilots protect against any probable failure and will safely land the aircraft.
All unrelated caution messages are inhibited below the alert height, therefore a master caution signal below the alert height indicates a significant failure of the autoland system requiring a go-around , or is visual conditions permit, a manual landing may be made
Excessive deviation from the LOC / GS (indicated by flashing pointers) above and below the alert height have differing actions too. Above, may be continued if correcting. Below, go-around must be made or visual manual landing.
What level of redundancy is provided with LAND 3 annunciated?
Fail Operational. A single fault cannot prevent the Autopilot system from making an automatic landing
What level of autopilot redundancy is provided with LAND 2 annunciated?
Fail passive. A single fault cannot cause a significant deviation from the flight path.
During an asymmetric go-around from a LAND 2 to LAND 3 approach, will automatic engagement of LNAV cause the autopilot to relinquish control of the Rudder?
Yes, at the first change of a lateral or vertical mode, whether manually or automatically selected, ie LNAV, TRK SEL or ALT capture
With Autothrottle L unserviceable, is it possible to do a CAT 3B approach?
Yes. Only one AT needs to be operating in the all engines case
With one TOGA switch inoperative, can you conduct a CAT 3A approach?
Yes. Downgrade autoland to LAND2 capability. The autoland system is not fail-operational. The NO LAND 3 advisory message may be displayed
With both TOGA switches operative can you conduct an LVO approach?
No. Autopilot and flight director are not to be used below 500 feet AGL or MDA, whichever is higher
With one flight director system unserviceable is it possible to do a CAT 3B approach?
No. Downgrade to LAND 2
If the FO’s autopilot disconnect switch is inoperative, can you conduct a CAT 2 approach?
No. One may be an operative provided:
Autopilot is not used below 1,500 feet AGL
Approach minimums do not require the use of the autopilot
At what distance from the runway Endpoint will the runway centre Line Lights change to White / red?
900m
What colour are there RCLL at 300 meters/1000 feet from the runway Endpoint?
Red
what lighting indicates that you are clearing the ILS sensitive areas?
taxiway centerline lights becoming all Green
If an airport has specific low visibility procedures for taxing / runway endpoints where will you find this information?
Jeppesen GEN pages
What visibility defines low visibility takeoff (LVTO)?
RVR < 400m
RVR is less than 550 meters. Does LVP need to be enforced for takeoff?
ICAO requires LVP for all take-offs below 550m RVR
Can reported visibility be factored to obtain an equivalent RVR for LVO?
No. (The only exception is at the pre-flight planning stage)
ATC cancel LVP and revert to CAT 1 operations during the approach to increase traffic flow. Could this be a threat for an auto Land?
Possibly as enhanced ILS signal protection is lost
What is the significance of the PFD localiser or glide slope deviation indicator turning Amber and flashing?
Excessive deviation from the required flight path at low RA
What pilot action is required in the event of flashing LOC or glide path deviation during approach above alert height?
If the aircraft is correcting, the approach may be continued
