Ophthalmology Flashcards
What parts of the eye are part of uveitis?
Choroid, ciliary body, iris
Chronic Glaucoma Tx
1- prostaglandin analogues (-oprost)
2 - topical beta blockers (timolol)
3 - topical carbonic anhydrase inhibitors (dorzolamide)
4 - Alpha 2 agonists (apraclonidine)
5 - Pilocarpine (constrict pupil to inc drainage)
Acute Angle Glaucoma Presentation and Tx
Presentation - sudden painful, red, hard eye w/ unreactive pupil
Tx - IV acetazolamide, IV mannitol, pilocarpine, beta blockers, laser iridotomy
What is the most accurate test for diabetic retinopathy?
Fluorescein angiography
Retinal artery v vein occlusion (presentation, appearance, tx)
ARTERY - pale retina w/ cherry red macula, give O2, ocular massage, acetazolamide, anterior chamber paracentesis
VEIN - patchy extravasation of blood into retina, ranibizumab (VEGF inhibitor)
BOTH PRESENT WITH SUDDEN MONO VISION LOSS
How does retinal detachment present?
PAINLESS curtain coming down over one eye
Hx eye trauma or DM or extreme myopia
2 Types of Macular Degeneration (how do you treat them?)
Dry (drusen) - no treatment; more common
Wet (neovascularization under Bruch membrane) - laser photocoagulation and VEGF inhibitor injection q 4-8 weeks
