Caries
Commonly known as tooth decay.
Carious lesion
A cavity caused by caries.
Cavity
Missing tooth structure. A cavity may be due to decay, erosion or abrasion. If caused by caries; also referred to as carious lesion.
Contact
The point or area where two separate bodies touch, such as the proximal contact between adjacent teeth or the occlusal contact between opposing teeth.
Decay
The lay term for carious lesions in a tooth; decomposition of tooth structure.
Dental sealant
a thin, protective coating (made from plastic or other dental materials) usually placed on occlusal surfaces of posterior teeth to prevent dental carie
Direct restoration
A restoration of any type (e.g., “filling”; crown) fabricated inside the mouth.
Point Angle
The point formed by the intersection of three planes.
Preventive dentistry
Aspects of dentistry concerned with promoting good oral health and function by preventing or reducing the onset and/or development of oral diseases or deformities and the occurrence of oro-facial injuries.
Proximal Contact
The point or area where two adjacent teeth touch
Rubber dam
A barrier technique used to prevent the passage of saliva or moisture, or to provide an isolated operative field.
Sealant
A resinous material designed to be applied to the occlusal surfaces of posterior teeth to prevent occlusal caries
Sedative filling
A temporary restoration intended to relieve pain
