Tell me - ‘Tell me everything that happened?’
Explain - ‘You have told me you saw XYZ, explain what you mean by this’
Describe - ‘Describe the man’

What are 5WH+H questions?
A
Questions that can be used to probe a persons’ account for more details.
What?
- What happened?
- What did they say?
When?
-When did it happen?
Where?
- Where did it happen? (Identify and preserve the scene).
- Where were you standing?
Who?
- Who was involved?
- Who said that?
Why?
-Why did this happen? (Ensure that ‘why’ questions do not blame the victim)
How?
-How did it happen? (Think about exhibits and corroboration).
